Learn All About Dog Training Collars – Dog Training Tools
Posted by: Benjie / Category: Dog Training ToolsMany dog owners are troubled by their dogs excessive pulling. If you are one of those you might just be ready to find the answer to your frustration. There are several dog training tools in the market that can give better control of a dog, but there are two that also do it without causing significant discomfort to the dog. I am referring to the head halters. There are two well known head halters, the gentle leader and the Halti.
Many people confuse these types of dog training tools with muzzles, but they are not to be confused, since they work differently. The most popular and well known of the two collars, is the gentle leader. The gentle leader, is very well constructed and it offers a great design. It has several straps that go behind the dogs’ ears, around the muzzle and under the chin. If the dog pulls forward the nose will turn toward the side, therefore it provides control of the dog via the nose. In that way the dog will not hurt his throat pulling.
Are all dog training tools the same? Heck no. And this is an example of that. The Halti, the other type of dog training collar, functions in the same type of principles as its counterpart, the gentle leader, but it has been associated with injuries in dogs. These types of injuries include spine and neck injuries. This collar is also a lot more complex to use.
Have you ever seen a dog collar that looks like a torture device from the medieval times? This is the prong collar. The prong collar, as many other dog training tools, can provide great control over the dog, but care should be taken not to apply excessive pulling on the dog, since this collar works by pinching the dog’s neck. In regular circumstances this collar only applies mild pressure and does not really hurt the pet.
It is advisable that dog owners that are not sure if their dogs are good candidates to use this collars, consult with their vets. These type of dog training tools are not to be used constantly on the pet, since they are correction devices. A new dog owner should extensively study its use prior to using it on its new dog.
A different type of dog training collar is the choke chain. This collar can also be effective in controlling the dog, but it is definitively not for the novice. There has been multiple neck injuries caused by this collar. These collars should be used mostly be experienced trainers.
Common sense, in addition to the proper knowledge on the use of the dog training tools is necessary by the dog owner to avoid any possible injuries to their dog.
